G0 is a roguelike demake of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero, created for Mini Ludum Dare 50 (theme "demakes") by HexDecimal. It was featured on Pixel Love on May 12, 2014.

Controls

  • Left.png Right.png Up.png Down.png Arrow keys - Move in respective direction.
  • Q/E/Z/C keys - Move diagonally
    • Q - Diagonal up left
    • E - Diagonal up right
    • Z - Diagonal down left
    • C - Diagonal down right
  • F key - Fire bullets

Gameplay

The player controls an agent that is trying to take intel from a base. Each intel obtained adds to the player's score. Once the agent reaches the water at the bottom of the screen, they can choose to draw from it to complete the game.

A sidebar to the right of the game screen indicates the type of intel received as well as any shouts from the guards and game hints.

Components

Guards

G0-guard-body

The dead body of a guard above the agent.

Guards look identical to the player's character, except they have a radar of white light in front of them. They move one space for every one space the agent moves. When they spot the agent, they will try to shoot at them.

When guards die, their bodies become a percentage (%) sign. Going over the body hides it.

Intel

Intel looks like a dollar sign ($) and can be collected to increase intel score. Each item collected adds 100 points and their description is noted on the game's right panel. Some intel offers game hints, while others show items that may reference other video games or relate to the agent's mission.

Water

Water appears as a tilde (~) at the bottom of the screen. When the agent reaches it, the player has the option of extracting water by pressing Y for yes and N for no. Selecting "yes" causes the player to display the winning screen, of which they are given statistics on the number of enemies killed, intel collected and are given the option to play again.
